2013 Must-Haves

We all have those books that we just can't wait to get our hands on and these are mine:
Just look at this cover, isn't it dreamy. *Sigh* Plus the storyline sounds good, too.
Tempest was a total surprise for me. So I'm super-duper excited to read more about Jackson's adventures.
Under the Never Sky was beautiful and crazy and I just loved it, so naturally the sequel would have to be on my list of anticapted 2013 releases.
Have you read the first book? If you have you know why I want this.
With All My Soul by Rachel Vincent

I've been addicted to this series since book one and the last installment is going to answer some major questions and I can't wait to see the chaos the answers cause.

The Collector by Victoria Scott

This book's plot sounds great, but honestly, I think I would buy it even if it sounded totally ridiculous because this cover is pure genius.

Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris

Just amazing, right?

Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

Read the first book, loved it. Can't wait to read some more Kaidan.

School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins

The Hex Hall series was hilarious and awesome, so this is an obvious must-have.

Awaken by Meg Cabot

It's Meg freakin' Cabot. There's no explanation needed.

Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Pushing the Limits was a work of literary genius.

A Trick of the Light by Lois Metzger

I don't know what it is about this book, but I just WANT it.

And that completes my 2013 must-haves. Not counting the books that don't have covers yet, like Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Endless Knight by Kresley Cole.

Poison Princess Review

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole introduces The Arcana Chronicles, post-apocalyptic tales filled with riveting action, the dark mysticism of Tarot cards, and breathtaking romance.

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side….
My Review:
Let me just start off by saying that I LOVE Kresley Cole's adult books, so going into this book I absolutely knew without a doubt that I wouldn't regret reading it.
The beginning of the book was amazing! There was the typical bad-boy-meets-girl scenario but Jack Deveaux is anything but typical. Every word out of his mouth had me sighing and laughing and just wanting one of my own. His character is just pure genius! And if you don't believe me check out Jack's Top Ten Tips to Win Over a Girl here. Did you read it? Because that #1 is pretty much how Jack is throughout the whole story. He's lovely.
Okay, I promised myself that I would make this an actual review and not just a total fan-girl over Jack so let's talk about the plot. Like I said before the first part of the book was great. It was an average high school setting which I really liked, then something weird happened. We move forward in time and everything's completely changed. And this isn't a gradual change, but an all-of-the-sudden-holy-crap-what's-going-on change. I didn't like how it happened but once I got the gist of the story I came to accept it.
All in all this book was another amazing addition to the greatness that is Kresley Cole's books. Reading it will definitely brighten your day and make you wish you had your very own Jack Deveaux.

Why I Love YA!

Who do I love young adult books?
This is a really hard question that seemed so very simple when I first heard the question but now, I'm having a difficult time explaining. So here's a list of my thoughts:
1) I grew up reading and young adult was in the same age group as I was when I started my obsession with the written word.
2) Young adult has grown into a fantastical, supernatural world that keeps me from having to worry about my stressful life.
3) The covers are GORGEOUS! :)
4) There is always something different to try. There's contemporary, dystopian, paranormal, fantasy and so much more! And all of it written through the eyes of a character that's in my age group.
And I'll stop there because 4 is my lucky number.
Now the whole reason for my spiel is pictured below:
Beth Revis is hosting the ultimate of contests on her blog. She's giving away fifty or so signed books!

TV Show Withdrawals

There is something seriously wrong with me. Either that, or a certain T.V. show is just sooooo unbelievably, freakin' good that I watched all 4 seasons (at approximately 22 episodes each) in less than one week. I'm hoping it's the latter.
Anyway, this T.V. show is none other than the Fox show Prison Break.
Due to a political conspiracy an innocent man is sent to death row and his only hope is his brother who makes it his mission to deliberately get himself sent to the same prison in order to break the both of them out from the inside out.
Sounds awesome, right? Well it absolutely is. If you haven't seen it, do so immediately. However, I have to warn you that you will need to have A LOT of time on your hands because once you start, you won't be able to stop.
And for those of you who have seen the show, I need recommendations. Books, movies. more television shows, you name it and I will try to see if it can help me stop thinking about the sexy man known as Michael Scofield.
Please, I'm begging you...

A Series That Every Werewolf Fan Needs to Read

Are you in love with werewolves? Well then start reading this book:

After a nightmarish encounter with a werewolf, seventeen-year-old Adria Dawson loses her sister, but gains the love of a mysterious young man and his legendary family.

Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable ‘illness’ and some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away from.

As unspeakable secrets unfold all around Adria, impossible choices become hers to bear. Ultimately, no matter what path she takes, her life and the lives of those she loves will be in peril. As she learns about the werewolf world she also learns why her place in it will change the destinies of many.

And then go and read the sequel because it will totally rock your socks off! Seriously, I stayed up until 6 in the morning after finishing another book at around midnight, just so I could find out what happens in this freakin' awesome masterpiece!

Isaac Mayfair is hiding a dark secret. And just when Adria Dawson thinks the worst of her life among the werewolf world is over, she learns the secret that can rip her and Isaac’s love apart. Adria must come to terms with what the truth means for her. What it means for her life and how much time she has left to live it. She must choose between two different fates, neither of which can offer life as a certainty.

As if Isaac’s betrayal isn’t enough, Adria learns that there are things out there older and more powerful than werewolves could ever be. An archaic entity known only to few as the Praverian, unlike anything Adria has ever known or heard of.

As Adria struggles with her own fateful dilemmas, she must also try to find out why the Praverian is so interested in her and do everything in her power to stay out of its way.

Due to adult content, this book is recommended for 17+.

Book 3 comes out in December 2012 and I'm going to be waiting on my tiptoes for this action-packed werewolf romance ending! This series has become one of my top, if not my all-time favorite, werewolf series.

Best of all, if you're a Kindle owner, these books are only $2.99 and under on Amazon!

Pushing the Limits Review

"I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise." Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. "You didn't do that-did you? It was done to you?" No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.

So wrong for each other...and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

My Review:

This book will jerk at your heartstrings and demand tears to fall. It's a powerful book about finding normal and a journey to self-discovery.

We're first introduced to Echo, a girl who has been horribly disfigured. She wears gloves to cover her scars and she tries to remember what happens the night of her "attack". She talks to Noah outside the counselor's office and things just go completely crazy from there.

Echo is a nice, quiet girl who used to be popular. Her situation just shows how horrible humans can be towards each other. Her friends don't want to hang out with her at first because she is so emotionally distant, yet they can't seem to recognize and understand that she needs her space and a new way of life. And her family had me wanting to scream at them! Her stepmom is an awful person who can't realize how messed up Echo is and her father won't stop butting into Echo's life - in all the wrong ways. Noah is, at first glance, just a jerk. But throughout the book his story had me crying waaaay more than Echo's.

The plot of the book is just this entire self-discovery journey where Noah and Echo build each other up and get comfortable in their own skins. Sometimes the journey has its rough patches but they only kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what the heck was going to happen next. The single problem I had with this story was that the ending was too abrupt, I felt like I'd just gotten to know Echo and Noah and then they went and walked away from me.

If you're looking for a light, summer read don't bother with this book. Pushing the Limits is about figuring out what's underneath and finding someone who can see that.

4/5 stars

Now she's Ayla Monroe, daughter of the same mother but a different father—and she's the gorgeous, rich queen bee of her high school.

In this universe, Ayla lives in glitzy Miami instead of dreary Pittsburgh and has beaucoup bucks, courtesy of her billionaire—if usually absent—father. But on the inside, Ayla is still Annie.

So when she's offered the chance to leave the dream life and head home to Pittsburgh, will she take it?

Dystopian Covers Unveiled

Three HarperTeen dystopian covers were released recently, here they are...

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

Ahh... Perry's on the cover, I love it!

Requiem by Lauren Oliver

This is really weird looking to me. Her face is quite scary.

Fragments by Dan Wells

Everything about it is fine, except for the fact that the girl model is in almost the exact same pose as she was in Partials.

Cover Changes

Okay, so I know this happened a while ago, but it still is another cover change that makes me quite upset.

From this:

To this:

Now a lot of people said that the pretty girl with a pretty dress on wasn't the right type of cover for Shatter Me, and I agree. But what the heck does an eyeball have to do with anything? The new cover is just blah and weird to me.

What do you think?

Waiting on Wednesday

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone's anticipating.

Release Date: September 4, 2012

Three teenage descendants of Medusa, now united, must claim their heritage to fight the monsters escaped from the abyss.

Gretchen may have known she was a descendant of Medusa long before her sisters--after all, she's spent her life fighting the monsters that escape the abyss--but that doesn't mean it will be easy to teach the other girls the ropes.

Greer has pressing social commitments on her plate and precious little time to train in her newfound powers. But that wretched second sight won't leave her alone, and her fabled heritage seems to be creeping into her fashionable life.

Grace has worries closer to home--like why her brother, Thane, has disappeared. He's hiding something. Could it possibly be related to the secret heritage the triplets share?

The first Medusa Girls book, Sweet Venom, was a really fun, kick-butt, cute story. I'm excited to see the three girls at it again, and who knows, maybe their men will make a bigger appearance in this one?

I need to go grab:

They're out for your soul.
And they don't have heaven in mind...

She can look into the future and know people's dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. she has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself does. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces and that he's one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil.

I've already read this book and loved it, I just never bought it while it was out in hardcover. Now I have to buy it online. Oh well...

Waiting on Wednesday

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that everyone's anticipating.

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally.

Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can’t. Like the fire that killed his parents.

Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick. But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he’s not doing it.

More than Gabriel’s pride is at stake -- this could cost him his family, maybe his life. And no one seems to hear him. Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Layne understands family problems, and she understands secrets. She has a few of her own.

Gabriel can’t let her guess about his brothers, about his abilities, about the danger that’s right at his heels. But there are some risks he can’t help taking.

The fuse is lit…

I just finished book one, Storm, and I absolutely LOVED it! I want to read about hot (literally) and sexy Gabriel. Swoon!
